Admins, please note.

I have some serious concerns that there are people whom, I believe are not members, who are not contributors, hijacking tunes from the "tune repository" and posting them on facebook pages.

My first concern is, farcebook being as it is, far from secure, and often hacked, that these HEX files could well be corrupted, tampered with, catching out the unaware, rendering their bikes ECU's in an inoperable state.

Worse still, bringing the site into disrepute, as he names the site, and the developer.

Then my personal piss boiling, having been an avid contributor, particularly in getting the 1600 bird running as it should, I have willing shared my tunes, under the understanding that I'd be sharing with likeminded owners, members, contributing members for their private usage and assessment, not for the widespread distribution by the morally inept nonmembers, people whom lack the moral fortitude, to at least seek, permission to distribute, from the developer.

Many, like me, have invested experience, many hours of time in development and testing, in producing our tunes, we ask nothing for them, other than members input.

I find it leaving a rather bitter taste in my mouth, to find that some pissant who when questioned by another member for his username, turns out this toerag is not a member and is hijacking files and distributing them.

Admin, is it possible, and I was under the impression that the "tune repository" was already only accessible to full members of the site, if not can it be made so?

If not, admin would you please delete all my posted HEX file tunes as it seems I am unable to edit my own posts in the "tune repository", members who wish to try my tunes contact me direct, and I will email the HEX file under the strict understanding that they are for private usage, and not for widespread distribution, I have all the tunes I have developed on file.

Cheers Mick.

Hi Mick,

Sorry for my late reply, I have been on a bit of a roller-coaster health-wise recently and only occasionally check in.

As to your concerns, I understand and completely agree with you on all counts.

It shouldn't surprise us that there are pigs that have no second thoughts about abusing the efforts of others.

You may remember several years ago where a few members on here started bad-mouthing this very corner of ours the very minute they had used it and taken the best from it they could.
They had their own agenda when forming an alternative entity.

To your issue now.
I am currently on the road but in the next few days I will make the repositary section a "members only" section, as you suggested.
This will not entirely insulate us from abuse, but will be a step in the right direction.

Watch this space.

Hi Bedouin.

Yes, mate understand fully the health roller coaster, and the effects to day to day life. All my best wishes to you mate.

Back to the issue.

I appreciate your efforts.

I gave the fool an absolute bollocking, listing many of my concerns and he has removed said files, I really feel he did not have malicious intent, but is merely one of gods dumb c*#* creations, unable to see the possible consequences of his actions.

All the same, I feel we need to protect ourselves from those with genuine malicious intent.

Cheers.

Ok gents, we are ready.

The access rules for the tune repository and dyno results threads are the following:

A/ To access these threads one has to be a member and logged in.
B/ A member has to be verified. What this means is a member has to have at least 30 posts before he/she is considered a VERIFIED member (just to access the 2 threads in question).
This precludes a smartass from registering and having immediate access to these threads.
He/she will have to have to have posted at least 30 posts beforehand.

Still not 100 per cent foolproof but it makes it significantly more difficult for bad faith players.

You can test this feature by logging out and attempting to access these threads as a "visitor".

I'm guessing that's how our beloved Admin is keeping out unwanted (unregistered) parasites. Login and all is good.
Enough gibberish there to confuse most normies and send 'em out for repairs. Hopefully this'll hold up for awhile.
;-)

FWIW: Still getting thumbnail error when trying to add pic directly into post.

Many visitors like to surf websites before becoming members. There isn't even a simple sentence "member access only". Why not lock down the repository??

Update - Good news, I accessed "Latest posts" as a visitor. No idea what's going on.

This morning I couldn't view "Latest posts" as a visitor, it's computer gibberish. That's not right, a total turnoff. Though I did see the repository for members only. Good

Am I to go with the update in your previous post or this last post of yours?

Either way, we are still fiddling in the backround with the "latest posts" section in association with the visitor visibility of the tune repository thread changes we recently made.
That's why you saw the error message you posted.
It is complicated open heart surgery but has to be done.

Probably yes, I got it, too. Followed by about four pages of IP addresses, client browser, device and System info, all the stuff that comes along when landing on most any web site. After login, all went back to normal. This time the error is gone, logged in or not 'latest posts' comes right up.

But first things first - we want to hear that you're back in the saddle and feeling 100%.
Yes?

FWIW, the same CSP error seems to appear depending on device in use.
I have two iPhones here of the same vintage, running different iOS versions. White phone runs on 12.4.1 (ancient), black phone has been updated. White phone goes straight to CSP error, black one does not, both bookmarked to 'Latest Posts.' Ran both side-by-side just now, white will go to Main, gets CSP on Latest Posts, no error using black, incl. this post. White has SIM, black does not.

(Next phone will probably be an old-school flip phone...)

As a long term lurker who has got some great information from this site for both my long gone 1700 tbird and now my current storm, theres not much happening on the site and its bloody hard to post 30 times to become verified without dragging up age old posts. I understand the forum members concerns and agree that we need to protect the forum but members like myself are being excluded

Agreed. I don't understand why all the difficulties but I don't manage the website so easy for me to say. And people say the forum isn't as vibrant, you can point the finger to these issues too.

The 30 post requirement is only to be verified to enter the tune repository thread. That's it.
In this way we can preclude someone just registering and abusing the tunes some members have contributed, as has been reported recently.
One would think they deserve this small protection given the effort they have made.
You might want to read my post further up describing all this.

Which "all the difficulties" and "these issues" are you referring to?
As far as I have seen you have reported a single error that pops up in the "latest post" section that we are trying to trace whenever time permits it.
Update: I think I have resolved issue now.

Also, the previous guy whose post you agree to has misread the new condition we set out for the tune repository (and dyno result) thread only.

Spam for years...and now individual threads are targeted, picture download as before and of course CSP error.

Spam is not a forum system issue. It is a keyword issue which we keep updating. Unfortunately spammers keep coming up with new "products" or naming practices.

I do understand that, and I am currently running a tune I have modified based on a tune I got from this site. I got a lot of good information of the discussion on tuning from the tune repository.
